In past thematic unit studies, we have read the book, studied parts of it, discussed it, then watched the movie. Then the movie was discussed. First graders however, often have not been able to wait for the movie to be over to report to me that the movie was in some way different from the book. How dare they ! ?!
Spotting the differences is a fun party game, maybe even an aerobic sport, depending on how animated your film-buffs are–I assume your First Graders were.
I also have friends with whom it is almost a blood sport.
