Kingsolver on the decline (or nonexistance, rather) of America’s food culture: “A food culture is not something that gets sold to people. It arises out of a place, a soil, a climate, a history, a temperament, a collective sense of belonging … At its heart, a genuine food culture is an affinity between people and the land that feeds them… A sturdy food tradition even calls to outsiders….” I’m slowly regaining hope in the idea that America may someday come to have this, but until that day- long live local restaurants and many cheeses! Thank goodness we surround ourselves with those lovely people who feel the same.
Looking forward to feeding you soon, my little love.
